How To Join
Home › Committees › Friedman Memorial Committee
Library book with judge gavel on law textbook in court archive study room for copyright and international legal rights

The Committee will honor the memory, spirit, and accomplishments of Judge Friedman. In addition, within the Association, the Committee will pursue a prestigious annual lecture, the Judge Daniel M. Friedman Appellate Lecture, to advance the field of appellate advocacy. Judge Friedman had a long and distinguished career as a Judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (1982-2011), Chief Judge of the United States Court of Claims (1978-82), and a senior appellate attorney in the Office of the Solicitor General of the United States and an attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice. He was an esteemed federal jurist, a leading appellate advocate for the United States government, an extraordinary teacher of and mentor to his judicial law clerks and all who crossed his professional path. Judge Friedman was also a dedicated supporter of the Federal Circuit Bar Association.

The Daniel M. Friedman Lecture on Excellence in Appellate Advocacy

Within the Association, the Committee pursues a prestigious annual lecture in the field of appellate advocacy, which will be known as the Judge Daniel M. Friedman Appellate Advocacy Lecture (the “Lecture”). The Lecture will be held at a judicial, academic or other appropriate venue, together with an informal reception. The speaker at the Lecture will be a prominent jurist, practitioner, academic or other person in a related field. The Committee discusses and develops recommendations for the Lecture each year, and event details are subject to the usual approval, timing, and support practices within the Association.
